Ruth Chisholm is a writer, project manager, social entrepreneur and communication specialist with over 20 years of experience in behaviour change communication, social marketing, and training and development.

She loves publishing, jazz, theatre and film, and is passionate about community service and youth development.

Ruth’s international development experience spans multiple sectors including education, workforce, climate change, sexual and reproductive health, youth development, agriculture and economic growth; working with organizations such as the USAID, the Red Cross, DEXIS Consulting Group and Population Services International (PSI).

She most recently served as the Jamaica Country Director for the Advance Program – a workforce development initiative for the Caribbean and Latin America region, funded by USAID and implemented by FHI 360.

The Advance program engaged higher education institutions and key private sector stakeholders in the agribusiness, wellness tourism and creative industries to make technical training programs more relevant to the market, based on country-specific workforce needs. Within seven years, they successfully developed and improved upon six associate degree programs, four of them new, and provided over 200 scholarships distributed to disadvantaged youth, among other achievements.

Prior to working with Advance, Ruth provided strategic planning, writing, editing, social research and behaviour change program design services. She has also served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Technology, a co-editor for Do Good Jamaica, and provided creative direction to the Literary Genius Foundation—an organisation building the reading competence of Jamaica’s youth at the early childhood level.

She holds an M.A. in Communication for Social and Behaviour Change from the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communications (CARIMAC), a B.A in Journalism and Mass Communication from Florida International University, and training in Communication for Behavioural Impact (COMBI) – the communication planning method used by the WHO – from the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
